I worked at Sports Authority full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

So many talented people; unfortunately, they are leaving daily.

    Cons

It is clear to all in the trenches that the execs are focused on getting the company sold. They have no interest in retention or making sure people are happy, as they don't plan on being around for the fallout, and don't care to have relationships with those they may have to terminate to save costs. Actual words from the head of our department were that if you aren't happy in your job you need ot leave. However, this is not the stated goal - the stated goal from HR/Execs is to reduce turnover and make SA a better place to work. So, the middle managers who are tasked with this objective are perpetually confused by the message they receive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't give lip-service to the engagement survey, then in departmental meetings tell everyone that if they are unhappy they should leave. That demonstrates absolutely zero initiative toward retention. It is a "don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out" mentality, and unfortunately at this point it is the good people who are leaving. The ones who are staying are those who feel trapped with no options.

I have been working at Sports Authority part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The Co-workers were really friendly and would help you when your department got busy. Pay was also good for just starting out. Discount is only 20% but comes in handy at times.

    Cons

Some management is unfriendly and uninformative. How many hours you get depend on your sales record. Prefer you not to have this job as well as another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees better, don't just throw them into a department they know nothing about and expect them to excel. Also give more information to employees about the products they are selling not just the basics customers want to know all the details and when we have been given the information it looks bad on us.

    No opinion of CEO
