Great place to work, but minimal upward (or lateral) mobility for mid-senior level employees.

Pros

Very flexible on hours, expenses, etc. Great people, can be a fun environment.

Cons

Pretty much impossible to move up or into another dept. They DO NOT foster any type of career development unless its within your own division.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'd say I approve of the way Haank runs the company, but it's run with seemingly little regard to market demands and more to sclerotic ideas about what the market SHOULD want.

Political and Ridiculous. You wont get anywhere in this company unless you know the right people.

    Pros

Good Work/Life Balance and Great Location

    Cons

Management Mistreats their Subordinates and treat the Licensing Support as if they were their very own maids. Management got to where they are because of the fact that they do not care about anyone else but themselves, lest of all, those who look to them for direction in their own jobs. Salaries are Low and there is little chance to move around within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a double look at your Sales VP's and how they are managing their Support. You would be surprised at all the injustices....

Difficult to move up, easy to maintain

    Pros

Springer's a great company, especially with respect to benefits (time off, sick days, health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) matching, annual bonuses, etc.). Health insurance in particular is incredibly inexpensive and very comprehensive. Hard work is recognized - and results are rewarded.

    Cons

It can be difficult to move up though, and is pretty much entirely dependent on whether or not your direct boss likes you and is willing to fight for you. Editorial is paid less than any other department, which doesn't seem fair because Springer wouldn't have a product to sell if Editorial didn't exist. Marketing and Sales get the majority of Springer's salary dollars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Editorial really needs to be paid better, and bonus plans should be implemented at the Associate level - especially since there is no difference between an Associate position and an Editor position, except that Associates have A LOT MORE work to do since they don't have assistants.
