  1. Until the GM and AGM are gone, this will be a terrible place to be an employee.

    Pros

It's usually a fun work environment. The management is never there so you get to learn how to manage things as an entry level employee. The perks used to be much better. The owners are really nice, though unaware of the hostile work environment they allow under the GM.

    Cons

90% of employees get fired eventually. The turnover rate for employees here is incredibly high. There is no appreciation or understanding of the amount of work the non-management employees do while the managers are constantly on vacation. The GM nickels and dimes his employees at every chance, is hardly there, clueless, runs away from guests with complaints, and is terrified of actually dealing with his employees when he has criticism. He expects the highest standards of everyone but gives his slacker kids preferential shifts, despite knowing full well that they distract the rest of the staff and slack off while doing things that any other employee would be instantly fired for. You'll never get a raise. Other reviewer is totally spot on about hiring inexperienced friends instead of promoting from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's no point. The people at the top are incapable of growth. They don't care and treat their employees like garbage. Lower management, get out while you still respect yourself.

I worked at St. Julien Hotel & Spa full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice location, nice building, everything looks good to the outside world. Health Insurance and 401K matching is nice in this industry. Bus pass is nice too.

    Cons

Poorly Managed, unprofessional owners & upper management. They hire their friends who have no experience in the industry, and those friends turn around & hire their friends, or hot chicks who also have no management and/or industry experience. You are treated like a child, but then expected to take on the work of 2-3 adults or you will get reprimanded. and then even when you take on more work, you are passed up for a promotion because your boss hires his college friends hot niece instead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire management with experience.
