Waited too long to transition from commodity based business

put a plan in place and then allow enough time for it to be successful. stop manageing from a position of desparation

    I have been working at Standard Register full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    The company is well known in the industry.
    The company has a long, positive history.
    The CEO seems to be trying to push things in the right direction.
    Working to upgrade systems.

    Cons

    Compensation is poor.
    Resistance to change.
    Behind the times technologically.
    Employees not supported as well as they should be. Lack of proper training.
    Management seems more concerned about personal jockeying than giving their employees what they need in order to get their jobs done.
    Systems are badly outdated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be more team oriented - cut out the politics.
    Give proper training and follow up to employees.
    Be proactive, not reactive.
    Dig for employee feedback and ideas to better the company.
    Culture must change - needs to find ways to collaborate.

    Unstable company, but strong customer focus.

    I worked at Standard Register full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Strong customer focus, ethical, career advancement opportunities for the "right" individuals. The company believes strongly in supporting their communities and searching for new, young talent.

    Cons

    Upper management shows favoritism when promoting, the company is too easy to terminate talented individuals rather than coach and develop them. The company's future is uncertain, they have recently gone through significant downsizing (500+), but still manage to hire C Level Executives into new roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't be so quick to pull the trigger, you've lost some talented people.
