I have been working at Stanford University

Pros

forefront of science research
congenial atmosphere, great people
acceptable pay
great education opportunities
clear advancement paths
clear salary and benefits information

Cons

There is a pervasive attitude of 'penniless student'. Hiring is upside down - more professors and researchers than support staff; support staff is chronically over-worked. I know many staff who are covering multiple people's worth of positions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The execs talk a great game but the middle management doesn't walk the walk. Workshops/education for the middle managers and faculty to encourage them to allow the support staff to use the alternative schedules and work location options is urgently needed.

I have been working at Stanford University

    Pros

Good hardware layout. Very good benefits. Working in such a a high-reputation university is of some good feeling. The libraries and golf courses are world-class.

    Cons

My advisor never pays attentionto my work. The research often deviates too much from practical use. The working style is lazy and slack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is good environment to cultivate free thinking, but it does not provide incentive to motivate people. Many professors are like retirement state and do not care about students.
