I have been working at Stanford University

Pros

You have flexible hours, scientific freedom, and are surrounded by some of the best scientists in the world.

Cons

It is very hard to get a permanent position as a PhD scientist (unless you are a prof), so think of it as a place to learn and then find somewhere else.
