    Pros

Legacy company with industry-wide name recognition and reputation.

    Outstanding product line.

Local management was excellent; corporate are lost in the woods without a compass.

Heavy physical labor at retail: toughest job I ever worked; something I had never done before but I met the challenge & ended up loving it.

    Great customers at Home Depot.

    Benefits were decent.

    Cons

Upper management running the Home Improvement side expect you to work like the slaves at the base of the pyramids for little pay & ZERO job security.

Pressured the field force to sell product in locally that should have been sold in nationally for us to merchandise in-store instead of grappling with the stores to get them to place orders that locally they had no money to do.

The company was profitable to the tune of billions but succumbed to stockholders & fatcat executives and slashed and burned the field force; yet they have millions to spend on fence signs for major league baseball games and millions more to sponsor a car in NASCAR and another $7 million to sponsor a bull-riding team. That's right: BULL RIDING.

    Advice to Management

Letting the Home Depot Merchandising Execution Team merchandise your product doesn't drive your sales; it lowers sales because they have no vested interest in doing things right, and selling your specific product to the loyal branded or unsure customer.

    Pros

Great work schedules, able to balance home and work life, great people to work with in company. If you get stuck in one area, the company is so big you can transfer to a different business unit and continue to maintain your seniority. Management is happy to mold employees in the direction the employees want. The benefits are average for the size of the industry.

    Cons

As with any place, you can run into people who are negative about the company and the job. With the current housing market, the company had to make some tough moves in the past few years but are still strong.

    Advice to Management

Upper Management will do well to show the front line employees that they matter - it will go a long way
