Great place to work until the Stanley merger then it all became about profit.

I have been working at Stanley Black & Decker

    Pros

The pay was great but hours were long.

    Cons

Very long hours. Unable to do job thoroughly. Got worse as management tried to squeeze out overhead. Layoffs were norm quarterly. Employees de-emphasized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that employee morale is important. Management acting like they don't care whether you like it or not is disrespectful.

Nice benefits of a large umbrella company, but less personal for the same reason.

I have been working at Stanley Black & Decker full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay. Nice to be part of a large, relatively healthy company. Good sense of company pride - you see DeWalt and Stanley signs everywhere you look, it seems.

    Cons

Company divisions continue to operate like the small business they were before acquisition, but have to deal with the challenges of SBD corporate mandates (switching ERP systems, CAD software, less personal). No formal job training (excluding the corporate mandatory stuff like harassment, company orientation, etc.). Benefits seem to be a bit on the expensive side for a company of this size - definitely geared to deter people from having children. It will cost you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward divisions that excel. There should also be established cost of living increases for all SBD employees. Please reduce spending on advertising (Bull Riding, MotoGP, NASCAR, MLB, etc.) before turning to the work force to meet numbers. Just look after your troops' well-being a bit more.
