I have been working at Staples full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

People you work with are terrific... Most of the customers are nice people too. Benefits are ok for full time employees. They even give limited benefits for part timers. Work is hectic becuase of a combination of volume and understaffing so it makes the day go quickly.

    Cons

Pay versus duties/responsibilty ratio is extremely poor. Managers cannot think out of the box. Extremely poor leadership. Appears they hired the people who couldn't manage in other industries. Company changed protection plan coverages that makes them practically worthless to consumers but they expect everyone to sell them or be written up for non-performance. Techs are expected to sell the max in services or be written up for non-performance. Training has regressed to a point where new employees are thrown into the mix with little or no mentoring and very little training. Numerous mistakes by corporate on pay and bonuses when you work or produce out of the norm. You need to check your pay for accuracy each week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously increase pay for the redshirts and black shirts. You have now lost approximately 40% of your best employees in the one of the top districts in the country. You cannot even find summer help because of the low wages you pay. ALL stores in my district are currently understaffed for the back to school season (WE TALK TO EACH OTHER). A disaster waiting to happen. Customers are now beginning to question the quality of our company because of the turnover that they see. Customers are also questioning what motives you have for not hiring mangers who have ties to their community. Eg. If you live in Newark, the company refuses to place you in a store in Newark. You must work in a store at lease 30-45 minutes away. Hire a night crew to stock the stores. Don't expect employees who worked all day to stay and stock for 1-2 hrs past their shift..
