Used to be great, now not recommended

General Manager (Former Employee)
Sacramento, CA

I worked at Staples full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThere are great benefits, even for part time associates. Schedules are flexible. Worked with great people at the store level. Have great training programs, if you have the time to use them.

ConsExpectations for sales categories too high compared to the amount of salary offered to associates.
Too big of a focus on sales to the exclusion of the things that actually make a profit. While benefits are great, salaries are low. Not enough time given to train people adequately to perform to the level that is expected

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your people more. Set realistic expectations and reward associates for making goals. Move back to a customer focused environment. Make sure you actually spend time in stores helping store managers and staff, not just coming in to make sure you look perfect then sweep out.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
