Starbucks Employee Review
Starbucks – “Great Job while in college, but certaintly not a career choice”
Pros
Excellent insurance- you only have to work 20 hours a week to be elligible
Pay is reasonable- base pay plus tips
Flexible hours
Great benefits
Great training
Cons
Easy to promote to shift supervisor, but hard to get beyond that level without networking.
Have a tendency to hire managers from outside the company
Advice to Senior Management
Go back to promoting from within the company. You wouldn't have the turnover issue if you invested more promotions into your existing workforce.

As someone who has worked there for 4 years, I advanced to a SS within the first 3 months of employment, and from there, no career advancement opportunities at all. Heck, I've even ran the store three times when the Store Manager was away on vacation (as we did not have an Assistant Store Manager or another Store Manger from another location come in), running labor, checking sales and exceeding goals, conference calls, fixing schedule problems, etc. Much above my paygrade and when the time in our area where TWO openings for Assistants came in, I was not even given an interview. It was all favoritism.
I quit as of Monday. It was the best feeling in the world to know that I'll never have to make a Latte again.
