Former Employee - Barista in Chico, CA

I worked at Starbucks full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Room for advancement.
    benefits
    environmentally friendly company.
They have high standards for food and coffee as well as customer service.
A company that you can be proud of. They believe in community service and are heavily involved in a lot of fundraising around the world and in the local communities.

    Cons

Benefits are not the best but better than nothing.
You have to maintain a certain amount of hours a month in order to continue to qualify for benefits.
I feel that some regional managers still run with the old idea of motivating employees out of fear of losing their job. Or that in order to be an effective manager, your own employees have to dislike you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should be trained that positive reinforcement works best for a happy work atmosphere and happy employees.

I worked at Starbucks full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Decent paycheck for minimum wage
    Transferring is easy

    Cons

They need not train me well at all
    HR was not helpful
    Work was very unorganized
    Very unclean place

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you keep an eye on employees. Watch how employees treat co workers and customers. HR, if an employee reports sexual harassment dont blame the employee who was the victim that its her fault. Have a manager who's in the store. I found a cockroach at the starbucks I worked at and we also had no hand sanitizer in our bathroom. Our bathroom was in a basement, with no lock and it was veryyy run down. To be way more organized. We didnt have a system for when orders called in a day in advance. So the next day when they came to pick it up the order wasn't filled. If an employee comes in late constantly but blames it on "studying" so they arent written up, that is bias behavior, not acceptable.
