Pros

Has great benefits and vacation time. High level of Independence and self direction. Great place for those with drive and initiative to succeed. Good growth opportunity for its top performers and producers especially in management levels. Executive level has a great direction in where they like to take the company, and do a good job communicating this vision. Very diverse work force, fun, enjoyable, flexible atmosphere where you can be yourself.

Cons

Overall Compensation for junior and mid level is low. If you don't work in a particular group or at a particular level you sometimes feel your not important. Can be overwhelming because of the volume of work, you can find yourself drowning in your day to day preventing you from gaining a new skill to help you advance.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent to new talent about what it takes to get promoted by having a better rewarding structure.

    I worked at Starcom USA

    Pros

    The company offers good benefits and is a great place for young professionals looking for a way to meet people and build a social network. Starcom offers a friendly atmosphere. The casual environment is another perk.

    Cons

    The work can get very tedious at times in certain roles. Working on the client side can be demanding with urgencies left and right making it nearly impossible to produce top quality work. Systems are not very advanced causing lots of double work. More often than not a workday is extended due to system overload/dysfunction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    HR needs to be more involved in the employee evaluation process. There is tremendous inconsistency in the PMP process, to the point that it is too extensive in some groups and nearly non-existent in others. There also need to be more rating levels for evaluation. I strongly believe that the norm is much too broad in the sense that many employees at the same rating have a work output far superior to others at that same rating. There also needs to be a way to balance the workload across desks of the same level.

    I worked at Starcom USA

    Pros

    People oriented and pretty fun to work here. They do a few inspirational things every year. Smart people work here (though not necessarily at the top). Overall, great to get a few years experience here and from there maybe take a senior post if you're working on good clients.

    Cons

    They underpay, especially due to the fact that they don't let anyone build equity unless they are a top official (one of many signs that the French parent company Publicis is pinching pennies). Also, the tech support here is horrific. May not seem like it matters but once your compuer breaks and you need help and end up working the weekend again and again, you'll get it.

    Computers matter. Time to pay attention to the future or your current strengths won't last.
