I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Employee rates at hotels; ease in moving from one hotel or brand to another; great work culture; innovative products; employee-led initiatives; employee feedback regularly solicited; great sense of (global) community

Cons

Large size occasionally means slow to move; salaries are not the most competitive; when times are tight, expect drastic operational budget cuts (in lieu of lay-offs, granted); mediocre time off benefits; those promoted to management do not always receive adequate leadership training; 'promotion from within' usually only applies to lower-paying positions

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The message often gets lost in the middle. And sometimes doing more with less just burns out the less.

    Pros

There are good benefits and its a very large company so there is almost an unlimited amount of growth available to you to take advantage of some career opportunities

    Cons

There is still limits as to high you can go such as is true with any Job or Career you chose to work to build others dreams and not your own. To make it high in the company would take a long time.

Former Employee - Front Desk Talent in Oxon Hill, MD

I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The pay is pretty decent. It is a nice area to work (National Harbor) . If you provide great customer service the customer will sometimes mention you by name in online reviews provided by the company. You are given a monetary reward with each mention. It is a laid back atmosphere when there is down time (And there will be). It is also fairly possible to become a Talent Coach ( Supervisor) If you stay long enough and if upper management likes you (which they will if you are a good worker)

    Cons

There will be times when you will be slammed with phone calls and people at the desk. In these situations you will not be able to provide everybody with prompt service. Some customers even seeing you being slammed will become unruly and nasty. You will also be on your feet all day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

GET SOME CHAIRS FOR THE DESK!
