I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts

Pros

Some of the benefits include the opportunity to relocate to various destinations where Starwood has hotels, the good pay and benefits relative to its industry peers, and the fun brands to work in.

Cons

As a coordinator, or an assistant more or less, it's easy to get lost in the shuffle and succumb to performing purely administrative tasks. Often times, the sales managers and Director level will not make an active effort to develop a career path for you, so you must take great initiative yourself.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Partner with staff at coordinator/assistant level to identify and develop goals and action plans for career development. Agree on key performance indicators, timelines, and commit to each other.

I worked at Starwood Hotels & Resorts

    Pros

Starwood Salary was very good and the corporate office building was very nice.

    Cons

I have never worked in such a toxic environment such as I did at Starwood. Management was disrespectful, arrogant, and did not understand the value of breathing room. Inter-office instant messaging? What a nightmare! My biggest issue outside of the the management style was the play with numbers. You can make them say anything by omitting important facts and only reporting the positive!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let you employees do their job and lose the IM!

I have been working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts

    Pros

One can move up quickly, theres always something to be done, has nice, modern, trendy clothing for people of all ages.

    Cons

There is no support from corporate, all managers do not get along, hence creating a negative atmosphere. Also very strong favoritism among the managers, causing many new and longer employed employees to not grow, be less knowledgeable and continue to stay poorly trained.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep personal life out of work, very unprofessional. Also spend more time with employees to be better trained. Lastly, be level-headed and do not take out or make excuses for managements shortcomings.
