Pros

you stay busy and have opportunities to offer wide range of insurance coverage which also allows you to get bonuses to increase your income.

Cons

There are a lot of State Farm offices and the clients don't always understand that they need to come to your office instead of someone elses to get the best service.

    Very educational but highly stressful.

    I worked at State Farm

    Pros

Educating clients and assisting them in their times of need felt really great when the customers appreciated what you were doing for them. I learned something new everday, insurance education is endless.

    Cons

Clients think insurance is a garage sale or swap meet, some won't give you any personal information but expect for you to be able to quote them, they are unaware that it is state regulated. There are some rude people out there who hate insurance workers (even if they are the ones who contacted you for a quote). Clients don't care if you had to go to school and get licensed to handle insurance and have years of experience in the insurance industry, they always know everything about their insurance because of what their neighbor's claim consisted of, or what they heard from a friend, or some people think they have no deductible because some guy at a car wash told them that.

It's hard working for an agent within the first years of opening their business. Many of them change their procedures on a month to month basis which devistates employees' commissions and bonuses since they're not giving enough time for employees to master a new technique and really see if it helps sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe better, more uniformed training within the State Farm departments? We would have to call service or underwriting a few times to get a correct answer for a question because the answers would always be conflicting even though there was actually only one correct answer.

I have been working at State Farm

    Pros

You learn a lot. Insurance is very interesting and the knowledge you get at State Farm will help you in many other jobs.

    Cons

There is a lot to learn. It is not a job that you can be at for a year and know everything about ever line of insurance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To some extent, more trust needs to be put in the Agents and Agent Staff, and in some circumstances, less in the hands of the underwriters.
