Loved my job when they respected their employees, but unfortunately 20 years later that is no longer the case.

I worked at State Farm

Pros

Pension 401k Medical - good benefits

Cons

State Farm has moved too fast on consolidating regional operating centers in an attempt to save money. Unfortunately, this has been at the expense of policy holders. They have lost experienced employees and cannot provide timely service to customers. They have even had to go as far as rehiring employees as temps in original office areas to process a backlog of work. Overtime is mandatory for those that chose to relocate. Way to burn out employees! Employees are no longer valued...Work life issues...sorry can't help you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some of the money you are spending on advertising (people are getting tired of repetitive commercials) and invest in your employees. You are burning them out. You've got to know if the job market were better thousands of employees would be bailing. This would never have happened with the old State Farm where employees valued their jobs. It's all about the numbers these days, but production is improved when morale is good and employees feel appreciated. Hire some additional employees and treat them as you would want to be treated so they will want to stay and have a long and happy career at State Farm.

They don't burn the house down with average pay but still offers me a decent work like balance.

I have been working at State Farm

    Pros

Still offers a pension and access to group health in retirement. Technology job with just a 10 minute commute. Decent "work-life" balance. Peers are many first line managers are easy tio work with.

    Cons

Average pay. Advancement opportunities (pay and position) limited. Internal JOP (Job Opportunity Program) currently frozen because of frenetic reaction to large IT intitiaitve that has set unrealistic goals and resource challenges. Largest employer in Bloomington-Normal so it has a captive hold on employees as there are very few (read only one-- CAT) IT employers of similar size within a reasonable driving distance. Bloomington-Normal is stuck in the cornfields and therefore is flat, windy and humid in the summer and bone-chillingly cold int he winter. BN has few natural attractions and is politically/socially fairly conservative and is situated at least 2.5 hours away from big-metro areas.
