I have been working at State Farm

Pros

As of right now i'm on a contract with a temp agency, but was notified i'm more than likely going to be picked up permanently from State Farm. It's a great job! From what I was briefed on, there is plenty of room for movement and growth, from Claims Rep, to ISR which is Internet Service and Support for statefarm.com, CCR which is catastrophe claims and even further, like an claims adjuster/inspector to agent. Awesome benefits, corporate discounts, etc....

Cons

None that I can think of just yet, other than maybe it could get repetitive for you but no call is the same.

Annual bonus provided by company based on production to invest for retirement.
Traveled around the world on incentive trips. Fully paid by company. Excellent accomodations.
Praise and recognition important to company and it's agents.
Most agents are helpful in helping each other achieve goals.
Management supportive and willing to help in any way they can.
    Most agents are lifetime agents.
    Excellent benefits.
    Great agent and staff training.

    Cons

Cannot sell book of business. Company owns accounts.
Cannot purchase books of business or accounts.
Not a good place for average or below sales and management talent.
Takes a few years to develop a good cash flow. Not ideally suited for individuals who do not have cash to carry them in early years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of below average performing management. You know who needs to go...
Listen more to agents and their feedback. This was the culture of the past and it served the company well.
Organically produce agents instead of going outside for average talent that cannot make it.

I worked at State Farm full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to move within organization
Big push for people to become salespeople
    Good benefits
    Financially strong company

    Cons

Started as a family-oriented company with a nurturing environment. One of core values to 'develop people,' which is really just lip service. When it comes time to help people grow and develop, people will always fall below the No. 1 State Farm priority of making a profit. They are trying to reinvent themselves to be more like Progressive, and are losing their core values in the process. It's become a dog-eat-dog, giant corporation. People are clamoring for survival, chewing each other up just to hang onto their own rung. Ethics and integrity have been thrown out the window.
