Pros

It is clear that State Farm makes a sincere effort to support and develop their employees and promote a good environment and a sense of community from office to office. Excellent Brand with agents who typically do a great job representing the good neighbor attitude. The company would do small retreats with the office staff to the local headquarters and provide lunch and activities and training

Cons

Office staff support positions can be tedious at times but the environment was always positive.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work.

    Pros

Good policy interpretation instruction at claim school.

    Cons

Management is very cut throat. You leave work pulling the knife out of your back. If you are not a minority you can't expect to get into management. Minorities that are management are not held to the same degree of responsibility as their non-minority counter-parts.There is no consistency across the states on HR matters, even with the recognition that each state has it's own laws.

    Advice to Management

It's OK to be forward thinking, but don't leave core values and the most effective/ best employees out on a limb. Don't micro-manage - nobody learns anything useful from it...except to be a cut-throat manager when the time is ripe. Treat others how you would like to be treated!

    Pros

Helping customers navigate unexpected day to day problems, developing relationships with customers, relatively easy work.

    Cons

Regional management has its head up its ass, management at an agency level is run like a frat house. Always aware that your employment is based on the mood of the agent.

    Advice to Management

Modify new agent contract so as to not encourage blatant frat boy behavior in local agents (adjust SMCV, etc).
