State Farm is a great company to work for.

Current Employee - Intern - Hourly in Melville, NY
Current Employee - Intern - Hourly in Melville, NY

I have been working at State Farm as an intern (more than an year)

Pros

State Farm treats their workers very well. The agent I worked for was very demanding but still very understanding. The office operated very well and everyone got along.

Cons

As with all insurance, there are many unsatisfied customers that are angry when they call.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give each agency more freedom rather than strict corporate rules.

I have been working at State Farm full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - great resources for agencies

    - great place to learn the insurance business

    - a large variety of products. There's not one person who wouldn't benefit from at least one product that we offer... Which increases your target market

    - great brand awareness

    - experience depends heavily on who your agent is as a team member. Fortunately I have a great one.

    Cons

    - highly penetrated in certain markets

    - too many corporate silos. Sometimes you have to call three different departments to get one policy straightened out

-experience depends heavily on who your agent is. I've heard some horror stories.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on cross training State Farm support employees. Waiting on hold to speak to someone just to get part of your question answered and then have to call three different service departments takes valuable time away from building new business for the company.

Make the IT systems more streamlined and seamless

Lose the silos and take on a more unified team approach.

    No opinion of CEO
