Current Employee - Catastrophe Claim Representative  in  Dallas, TX
Current Employee - Catastrophe Claim Representative in Dallas, TX

    Pros

    Nice work environment and diverse
workforce. Tech support and trainers are good. Nothing exceptional about Dallas, TX and Jacksonville, FL management though. Very stressful work but worth every minute.

    Cons

Get team managers with pride in SF and its

employees and partners. A collaborative team

environment with no room for collusion among

    management. #1 is real Management

    supervision!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not lazy team

managers who have claim reps doing their job

reviewing OTHER claim reps. How counterproductive is

that? Happens with almost every team

manager I have ever worked for in

     CAT operations.....
Get some decent team managers and rotate

your people every 90 days whether it be

managers, claim reps or independent claim

reps. This seems to be a repeated theme for State Farm Reviews, take note.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honor your commitment to your work force and

    State Farm CEO's good intentions.

Honor your commitment to your customers.

Everyone needs insurance and very few people

are claims free. Don't just go for the

youth market. This monkey see monkey do mentality of insurance companies will ultimately be the straw that broke the camels back. George Jacob Mecherle’s original vision for State Farm to operate fairly and do the right thing for it's customers should still guide State Farm today.

Current Employee - IT Leadership  in  Bloomington, IL
Current Employee - IT Leadership in Bloomington, IL

    Pros

Make no mistake, SF has been a great employer ... there are some critical shortfalls within the organization though that has been leading to its downfall. I contend those issues are with the most senior leadership.

    Cons

Nepotism ... how does a 34 year old who never distinguished himself within industry or academia become CEO of what was then the Fortune 12 company in the US. (Fortune 33 now?) Ed Rust Jr. and other key leadership have been riding this company into the ground. They have been asleep at the wheel. They allowed the agency force to shrink harmfully and impactfully. They have allowed that same agency force to age such that it could now cause catastrophic failure for the organization. They completely missed the internet boat, such that the organization has allowed competitors to take control of the battlefield. They jumped into banking such that they now have more diluted the product offerings and focus ... and lose considerable millions annually. They have demonstrated that they are inept at virtually every important aspect of leading a Fortune 50 company ... with the exception of being born into the right family or other forms of the "college chums network".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

State Farm will need to reinvent itself from an ogranization of constant gridlock of a beauracratic, scared of their own shadow system, to one that once again embraces risk taking and the reward of those willing to push the boundaries of entrepreneurial success.
