Pros

Teamwork is good, and it works in a team managed environment. It is laid back, you can go to lunch or breaks whenever you want.

Cons

The training was AWFUL!! The people are snotty if you don't know as much as them. It is a hurry up and wait type rollercoaster all day, as there were hours with nothing to do, then all the work comes in 30 minutes before you have to leave. You cannot leave until all of your files have been checked, so if the people checking them are behind or just not doing their job, you are stuck late at work.

Advice to Management

Get better trainers! The manager needs to be a little more involved, and higher ups and even HR had no idea what we do. They couldn't even explain what the job was in any of the interviews!

    Pros

Well organized, structured development team, good processes & procedures.
Good mix of development technologies and skillsets in team.
Opportunities to work on diverse projects both small and large.
Big DB work in SQL Server & Oracle.
Very experienced team, great team dynamic, everyone is friendly.

    Cons

IT training budget was almost non-existant due to tightened budgets at a regional level
Very few opportunities to work 'outside the box'
Teams are being outsourced, and all the work seemed to be going that way too when I left.

    Advice to Management

slow down on the outsourcing - keep a skilled centre of excellence and expertise in the local office.
find a better way to manage appraisals, that 1-5 thing isn't working.
Forget the £200 euro annual bonus's, GIVE OUT STOCK OPTIONS to let local staff really benefit from the success of the company on a global level.
Perhaps invest in more IT skills training

  2. Fast paced, intense, good training ground

    Pros

Conducive environment for learning, encouraging team, strong focus on client value - something I really like.

    Cons

Relatively lower pay compared to other too-big-to-fail banks.

    Advice to Management

Lower pay is encouraging staff to job hop, which is a pity because they like SSGA's culture. They just realize they'd get better pay if they leave.
