Pros

Team-oriented work environment
Location
Great benefits
Corporate community
Business casual dress code

Cons

Salary
Location
Only really busy during month end, rest of the month is dead boring
Repetitive work
Not much communication from management

If you're looking for a challenging job, this is not for you. Same things are done each and every day, the same way every time. Like the title says, extremely mind-numbing work

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to be more proactive in their reviews and 1-on-1's each month

  1.

    Overall, a good company

I have been working at State Street full-time

    Pros

Being in the right division helps a lot. If you're in the right division, you sometimes get priority in getting what you want. Things are done much faster.

    Cons

If you're in the wrong division, you'll probably feel de-prioritized and may feel that your group moves a little more slowly than you like.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate more often. Make sure everyone understands the overall goals.

High intensity, low pay and average opportunities for growth

I have been working at State Street full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    * Entrepreneurial culture; very easy to suggest and implement new ideas
    * Lots of groups for networking that cater to a variety of interests
    * Easy to solicit advice from anyone across the org
    * Great for spreadsheet junkies and for anyone who wants to be
    * At its best, culture is collaborative and nurturing

    Cons

    * You'll only have the power to make marginal changes, at best
    * "Work-for-the-weekend" culture; nobody actually cares about finance or the markets
    * Work is intense, detail-oriented, fast-paced but ultimately not very intellectually stimulating and doesn't promote much skills growth; on your worst days, you'll feel like a sweatshop worker
    * Unspoken pressure to not take lunches and the be chained to your desk all day
    * At its worst, the culture is male-dominated, sports-centric, all-balls-and-no-brains and homophobic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * Pay people more than the bare minimum you have to; you'll get better staff and less turnover
    * Foster inclusiveness; actively discourage the promotion of "bros"
    * "Lean" is not a buzzword you can use to hire one employee to do the work of two for half the pay

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
