Pros

State Street is a great place to start your career if you are interested in financial services. If you decide to go on to another employer later on, you can leverage your experience to land a position at a mutual fund or asset manager. If you decide to stay on, there are plenty of opportunities for advancement. Besides career opportunities, the benefits outside the below market average salary are much better than the norm. The 401k plan and vacation days are particularly generous.

Cons

While the benefits offered by State Street are very good, the custodian bank could raise its base salary amounts by 3000 or 5000 dollars a year to be more competitive.

    Pros

State Street is great place to start for those who have little or no experience. You will learn quite a bit from the type of work you do. You have opportunities to seek different a position or a promotion in other departments.

    Cons

Pay is very low. You will be very busy.Turnover is high. The work that you may not be related to what you learn in school. The company moved from client-based to function-based. This yields repetitive daily work and less learning opportunities .You used to learn much more when you do much more for the client.

    Advice to Management

I encourage management to create easier learning opportunities by allowing employees to work in other departments temporarily from time to time. Currently, the only way to work in another department is to apply for an opening position and goes through an interview process.

  2. State Street is an out of touch large corporate structured bank.

    Pros

They reward employees with opportunities to give back to the community. Many departments offer a flex schedule for a better work/life balance. Vacation and paid time off helps make up for the well below average salaries.

    Cons

Atmosphere tends to nurture and advance tenure instead of intelligence and hard work. Very corporate driven and need multiple people to get an answer.

    Advice to Management

Don't say that your people are the company's best assets when you don't treat them that way. Actions speak louder than words. If the employees are the company's greatest asset then pay them more. Next time you walk into a State Street building or around a department floor, look around and try to count how many people are smiling. That indicator will tell you what the culture is.
