Pros

Experience - good and bad - in state government is very dependent on the agency, leadership, and middle management.

Great opportunities for growth and networking, especially in health-related agencies

Cons

Depending in agency and position, challenges are: Bureaucracy, limited resources, limited mobility (depending on starting point).

Pros outweigh the cons!

    Pros

Nearly impossible to get fired after a year with the organization, stable career; ability to float along without doing much actual work.

    Cons

Disorganization, silos of information and related duplication of effort, infighting. Low total compensation relative to comparable positions in private industry.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what your employees are doing.
