I worked at State of Georgia Department of Human Resources full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Very flexible with scheduling. Interacts with many different types/classes of people.

Cons

Too much work for the amount of pay. Co-workers worse than clients. Co-workers way too gossipy and unprofessional.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better training once a new worker is on the actual job site and don't just rely on the computerized training that only captures the theory of the job.

I have been working at State of Georgia Department of Human Resources

    Pros

12 paid holidays, accrued leave quickly, never boring. If you don't like something, wait a few days and it will change.

    Cons

Absolutely everything else...pay, morale, environment, very high turn over, no advancement opportunities, management, limits on overtime and overtime compensation, poor leadership, impossible expectations, constant change. Did I mention how bad management is (from state level down to county office)?!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to your HR policy. Hire experienced supervisors (2 years of direct program area knowledge) not just the "yes" people. Upper management needs cross training and experience in ALL social service program areas to back it. Too youthful and inexperienced management ( like current regional) leads to poor decisions and child deaths.
