Pros

+ good benefits package, and the longer you stay there the better it gets
+ good and competent co-workers
+ fair & available upper management personnel
+ provides for work / life balance

Cons

- no overall direction at any state department; albeit difficult since the "bosses" of the elected legislators change every couple years.
- not much chance to get a raise, or get a promotion, or get completely challenging assignments
- no sense of urgency for any work
- some co-workers are the stereotypical government employee that just show up to get a paycheck and contribute nothing while just waiting for retirement and a comfy pension

Advice to Senior Management

set some long term goals, get all state departments working more together, and get rid of the free-loaders
