Challenging work, good connections with the utilities industries, dedicated team of employees.

Manager-Bureau Chief (Former Employee)
Trenton, NJ

I worked at State of New Jersey

ProsGood beginning compensation, good benefits package, flexible time, easily accessible by train, car or light rail stations.

ConsNeed to institute succession planning so that as employee leave the agency, others can step in and take control. There needs to be a program of training employees so that are able to take on additional responsibilities. There also needs to be an annual review of employees performance so that management can determine which employees have the acumen to become managers. There also needs to be a compensation program so that good, responsible employees are rewarded for their work and are retained on a long term basis.

Advice to Senior ManagementUtility regulation cannot be grasped or learned at the agency, in fact, training seminars are available for those who need a further understanding of the rate making principles and theories. There needs to be a systematic and continual education program so that employees can grow and become even more valuable.
