I have been working at State of Ohio full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

You are paid at a fair rate for what we do. The step increases get you to a great rate of pay.

Cons

Outside of Columbus there you have to push for development and training. Most of it is on your own time. There is no succession planning for your career.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If someone is very motivated and wants to be lead to become a supervisor or go into management help them develope a succession plan for the next 2 years of their career. Don't develope a leadership team and never follow through for those who are craving learning and training.

I have been working at State of Ohio full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits: health, dental, vision, tuition, etc
Increase in vacation with length of service that carries to and from other public sector position

    Cons

Typical state workers who only do bare minimums can make things hard for those who have good work ethic because good workers get more responsibilities to take on for same pay as the one who pretends to look busy all day.

Current Employee - Call Assistant in Moraine, OH

I have been working at State of Ohio part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, ability to trade shifts, paid holidays and paid time off as a part time worker

    Cons

Difficult job to handle full time. Inbound call center keeps work consistent. If you have to use the restroom it needs to be on your break. If you tend to miss work periodically this is not the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management does a great job at the local level.
