I have been working at State of Texas

Pros

Easy to take time off, great benefits, very flexible schedule, friendly atmosphere

Cons

Few opportunities for advancement, government budget cuts=layoffs for many and zero chance for a raise or promotion for the rest, no respect if you are young, no plans for succession, workforce is aging out quickly

I worked at State of Texas

    Pros

Opportunity to live in Austin, TX. In a building a couple blocks from the state capitol where you could meet some other people working for State of Texas if you want to seek opportunities to move up in the government.

    Cons

Some specific divisions have people in high places who play favorites with the employees and harass those less favored to the point where it could hinder their career advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees and do not run off all the good employees with dysfunctional activities within the agency. Give them opportunities to train up.
