I worked at Stax, Inc. as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

Working at Stax as a Research Associate was a great interim position while between jobs. The exposure to a variety of industries and professionals was not only interesting, but helpful in securing my next role and expanding my general knowledge of the business world.

Cons

Sometimes it was difficult to get a straight answer on timelines or deliverables as someone outside of a dedicated project management team. It would have been helpful if there was more communication from Managing Directors/Project Managers to the Research Associates on each project.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thanks for making Stax such a welcoming place to work and offering great opportunities! The only thing I would recommend is to try for better communication/more transparency with the primary research teams.

I have been working at Stax, Inc.

    Pros

Stax is a great place to truly learn about management consulting. You do not need to have vast consulting experience to excel here, particularly as management and coworkers are 100% willing to teach and mentor until you get legs beneath you. If you are looking for professional growth and M&A deal visibility this is a great place to be.

    Cons

Fast-paced and work/life balanced can be strained, but certainly no more than any other firm in this industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More transparency

    I worked at Stax, Inc.

    Pros

Flexible hours (because you're being paid by the hour as a contractor); nice office on Boylston St; good interim job due to contract status

    Cons

Dysfunctional management; poor employee treatment; dismal communication w/ contractors; poor work/life balance for full-timers; horrible employee morale; generally poor working atmosphere

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide better communication; foster better morale; get involved with day-to-day work; clearly outline expectations and opportunities for contractors; be less miserable and perhaps it will "trickle down"
