Steak n Shake Manager in Normal, IL:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Management offers salary, full health care, vision, and dental, 401(K), and the people are generally fun.

Cons

As of recently they are taking away all employee benefits making for low moral and dissatisfied associates. They have discontinued 401(K) match, raised costs of health care, and taken away employee vacation, allowing only management and trainers working over 38 hours a week to have vacation time. They have also make the requirements for employee health care so tight it is near impossible to qualify (must have 5 years service, 25+ years old, and work 35+ hours a week). This would not be as bad, except they have just changed it from being very easy to qualify (just averaging 31.5 hours a week after 1 year service). Expectations of higher management is sometimes very high, making work very stressful.

Advice to Senior Management

Give the employees back their incentives and you will have less turnover, happier guests, and happier shareholders.
