I have been working at Steak n Shake part-time

    Pros

Very organized. Tries its very hardest to keep any and all customers happy. The corporate of steak n shake has an incredible strategy to maximize the companies profitability.

    Cons

Many, if not all, of the workers are overworked and extremely dissatisfied with their job. Steak n Shake has a system of trying to combine fast food and a restaurant, by seating you, when you come in, but with relatively cheap, yet good food, as well as having a drive-thru option. Which sounds great on paper, but since most of the food is cheap and also considering that steak n shake is not mcdonalds (which is always busy) the management will understaff for that day and only have 3-4 people, on a very busy day, to work 5 stations on the production line, which is something that they have to do because everyone knows, if you spend more money on your workers, than you make on the food that you sell, you will lose the company money. Those 3 to 4 people include one person on grill, one person on shakes, and one person to dress (put condiments on burgers, as well as make fries, chicken, salads, mac n cheese, chili, soup, etc.). Leaving the other dressing station and the drive-thru operator, completely empty. I will also mention that steak n shake does not pre-make ANY of their food. Which means if a big rush comes in, which can be anywhere from 20-80 people, then that means that 2 people have to make 20-80 peoples food, and that one person has to make the shakes for 20-80 people. Also remember that none of the food is pre-made, steak n shake makes the food when you order it. That is a lot of food to make for 20-80 people on the spot, and many people believe that steak n shake is fast food, which really angers the customers when the workers don't get their food out as quick as some other fast-food chains that do pre-make a lot of their food. And when customers complain, after the workers just busted their butt to make all of that food, then the workers can become extremely unhappy, and that's not to even count the amount or level of stress that one might have to deal with when making that much food on the spot, and almost always on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suggest that management either rises the prices of the food so that they can hire more workers so that workers are at a smaller stress-level and to keep workers and customers happy, OR market yourself as much if not more than the really big name fast-food chains, such as mcdonalds, so that you become more popular, get busier, and then you can always be fully staffed so that you can, once again, keep the workers at a smaller stress-level and keep the workers and customers happy.

I have been working at Steak n Shake full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Paycheck, some good employees and some good customers.

    Cons

"Do what I say" atmosphere and even though "I will hlep" they never do.
    Everything.
This is the WORST company I have worked for in my 20 years at food service. It's nothing but show for corporate visitors and no long term change or improvement. Run. Run as fast and as far as you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Not enough time and space.
