I have been working at Steak n Shake full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to contribute to change and improve processes; good company brand, good food options, family dining experience

    Cons

Lack of any focus on employees and supporting them. People are treated like they should be grateful to work there and not like partners in success. Lack of funding to improve outdated systems. This was needed initially to save the company but if you don't keep up your house, it will eventually fall down around you. Turnover is at an all time high and you won't be able to just keep moving people through the doors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some good leaders and then let them do their job. Use age-old management practices to monitor their progress like reports and performance standards instead of micro-managing every detail. Learn what it means to have a good human resources program and then implement it. People will work hard for you because they want to not because you bully them. Look at reviews from "In and Out Burger".
