Steel Warehouse – “Steel Warehouse - A Great Place to Work if Your Last Name is Lerman!”

Pros

In one word "Benefits". Steel Warehouse does a great job providing a benefits package to meet different needs. While I was employed their insurance plan offered had three different choices with three different cost structures.

Another great reason to work at Steel Warehouse was that it was next to impossible to get fired. I was always amazed at how poorly someone could do their job for an extended period of time and not get fired.

Family is important to the company. When you had problems arise or had a sick kid at home they were understanding on you needing to take time off.

Cons

The wages for all positions tend to be at or near the bottom of the industry. The pay is fair, but comparing Steel Warehouse wages to other steel service centers they tend to pay less then all others.

Steel Warehouse is a family owned company and if you are family it is great for you. If you are not family the possibility of being promoted to a senior position is on the slim side. With that said, the second generation will someday most likely be running the company and from what I saw of them, I suspect they will be running it in circles.

Advice to Senior Management

Get out and talk to your employees. Anyone can talk the game, but to actually leave your office and understand what is happening in the plant and on the sales desk is important.
