Stevens Transport – “Alot of miles, not enough home time”

Pros

Great training program, very thorough. Good equipment, good driver mgrs, good dispatchers.

Cons

Not enough home time, low cpm, 15 hour days for training, Hotels used for training are horrible.

Advice to Senior Management

Take an extra day or two for training instead of 15+hr days

The 15 hr days have absolutely nothing to do with your training. That is how much time Stevens allows the truck to roll during the training process. The more the truck rolls, the more the trainer gets paid. A lot of trainers, especially Alliance trainers would have the truck rolling 24/7 if they could. You see, trainers, really do not want to train. They are trying to make up for the low CPM. I hope your trainer took time to teach you to back up properly, trip plan and how to take care of yourself.

The 15+ hours days in the Orientation I have absolutely nothing to do with either of the two previous comments. Take a look at the federal regulations and see that the (rough) time you will work in a day is 14.5+ hours (11 hours driving and a possible 3.5 hours of on duty). The time you spend in the early training phase is more a test of your endurance than anything, especially in these days of higher attention being paid to driver fatigue.
