Stewart Information Services – “Don't work here

Stewart Information Services Senior Software Developer in Houston, TX:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Good place to work if you like a slow and static atmosphere without alot of deadline pressures. Everything moves at a snail's pace. In IT they have semi-annual product release cycles. Not for my taste but some people may like this type of environment. They have a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off. But instead of working 9 hours on the other days, most people work the standard 8 hours. Also the Friday that people do show up for, most people leave early and nothign gets done.

Cons

Terrible upper management. They have no idea what they're doing with regards to IT. The management structure is bloated with little direction. Most of management I've dealt with are unqualified and gets in your way most of the time. There is a very high number of project manager, product managers, BA, dev managers for the number of developers. With the non-technical people driving most of the technical decisions. Projects that should take 4 weeks to do usually last 6 months or more. Not much gets done.

Advice to Senior Management

You have some very useless people in management. Start getting rid of some of them.
