Pros

Stryker is a focused growth firm that is helping to improve quality of life for patients worldwide. Stryker values employee development and has evolved formal processes for acting on employee feedback.

Cons

The company is maturing systems to catch up with organic and acquisition growth. Must be able to navigate in situations where there is not always an established process. The upside of the firm being at this stage of development is that there are many opportunities for self-starters.

I have been working at Stryker full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Comp can be attractive if you work hard and catch a few breaks. Tough industry in general. Really takes a unique individual to succeed.

    Cons

Stryker expects more of their sales reps than any of the other competitors. This is evident everywhere... Stryker gets more done with fewer reps. Sometimes I think they forget how lucky they are to have some of the individuals they do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The sales management should talk to the reps in each branch...

AVPs approach GMs and Sales managers for a "State of the Union" in their respective territory. Then they take them at their word... guess what? That's a bad way to find out if the sales reps are satisfied with management. Q12s are a joke. Get out in the field and ask reps at each branch (confidentially) how their managers are performing. I think it would be eye opening. Just because a branch is above quota doesn't mean it's a result of the managers... they could be standing in the way of even faster growth! The opposite is also true... a branch/agency might not be at quota, but they might have a hell of a great leadership team.

AVPs... Charlie... All you guys... come out and talk to us.

    I worked at Stryker

    Pros

Most senior management staff are reasonable. Still progressive and have the small company vibe. Let's you move around and see different sides of the device world. As much as you put in you learn. The company tries to do the best for you. A lot of folks work there are dynamic and easy going. Their biggest asset is their people.

    Cons

Workload at times can be a problem at times. But if you have the Stryker mentality of i do and learn, there will be a lot of learning opportunities that will help you develop your knowledge in the industry and regulations. Company starts great projects but a lot of them fizzle out before completion. As much as the company is driven by people, the company is people dependent. And it competes with BD and JnJ for resource in the NJ region.
