Pros

Fantastic corporate culture: The mantra at StubHub is work hard, play hard. Although the daily grind can at times be vigorous, StubHub goes well out of their way to show employees that their work is valued. This is done through ticket raffles to various concerts and sporting events, free lunches, free bagels on Friday mornings, and tons of after work social opportunities. Also, there are countless ways to unwind during the work day, including ping pong tables and basketball games in break rooms, rock band, and ESPN on every TV in the office. Lastly, EVERYONE here is crazy about sports and/or music. It's great to work at a place that lets you talk about sports and music as part of your job.

Strong focus on values: StubHub's primary goal is to ensure buyers have the ultimate fan experience. This is reiterated over and over throughout the company. It also helps that everyone here is a sports/music fanatic. This helps put employees in the customer's shoes.

Excellent leadership: Chris Tsakalakis and his leadership team have done an excellent job propelling this company forward. They are extremely focused and driven towards accomplishing the company's BHAG. Furthermore, they clearly outline long and short term goals and what every department has to do to help accomplish them. Top-down communication is also excellent. Chris T sends out numerous company wide emails highlighting company news and accomplishments. More specific to the marketing department, Ray Elias (CMO) has done a fantastic job ensuring that there is strong synergy within our department.

Career opportunities: StubHub is expanding very quickly domestically and internationally, particularly in the UK. This creates the possibility of moving vertically and laterally within the company.

Compensation & Benefits: Employees are compensated very well for their work. In addition to a competitive salary, employees receive full benefits (health, vision, dental), 401k matching, eBay stock options, and reimbursement for public transportation expenses. Also, because StubHub is owned by eBay, employees get access to a number of eBay company perks. These include discounts on Zipcar rentals/membership, Apple products, major phone carrier plans (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint), Dell computers, gym memberships, pet insurance, FedEx shipping, popular California travel destinations (Disneyland, Universal Studios, etc.), and tons of other stuff.

Cons

Work/Life balance can be a bit skewed at times. This is something the company is looking to fix. They are conducting employee interviews and focus groups to look for how to remedy this.

I have been working at StubHub full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-The product is lots of fun, who wouldn't want to work on improving the live event experience?!
-The focus is very customer and fan centric, StubHub hires fans that understand what other fans want and how to optimize the event going experience for them
-The fan lifestyle is strongly encouraged and promoted, employees are encouraged to go to games, concerts, festivals and theatre, the office is decorated with event memorabilia,
the tvs are always on espn
-We have the resources and benefits of working for a large company as we are owned by eBay yet lots of autonomy and ability to see our work make a difference because StubHub is still a rather small company where people wear many hats
-Lots of opportunity to work with and learn from the President and Leadership Team as they are very accessible to all employees
-It is clear that lots of thought is put into strategizing to acheive future greatness and improving in all areas and this is very openly communicated to employees while welcoming opinions and feedback
-Great benefits: 401K, great health insurance, flexible work from home time and vacation, good pay and bonuses, get to attend lots of events (employee raffle tickets), stock purchase plans, commuter reimbursement, bagel friday, fresh fruit every day, brown bag lunches, lots of happy hours and fun offsite events
-Employees are very friendly and for the most part collaborative. We all have common goals and values and truly want to see StubHub succeed

    Cons

-It is not easy to be let go leaving some people that are ineffective in roles for too long
-There is a lot of work on everyone's plate because we are a pretty lean company. This means employees have lots of opportunity to grow but at the same time can struggle with a work life balance. Luckily we are addressing this work life concern in 2013

I worked at StubHub as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Access to deals at concerts and sports events.

    Cons

The building is horrible in S.F. and the whole area around the building stinks like sewage in the summer time. High management rewards insane middle management. Absolutely no discussions with the employees are facilitated to get feedback on how the employees are being treated by said middle management. The job is no opportunity for anyone. It was just drudgery working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The middle management is being rewarded for treating your employees very badly. If you would only speak with your employees without them fearing retaliation, you might actually get to the bottom of the problems you are having.
