Current Employee - Sandwich Artist in Warren, MI
Current Employee - Sandwich Artist in Warren, MI

I have been working at Subway part-time (less than an year)

Pros

-Easy enough to learn everything relatively quickly.
-There can be slow periods that offer some time to take a break.

Cons

-Management seems more concerned with the bottom line than the morale of employees. I often feel as though I'm not human in their eyes, only an entity used to increase their profits.
-Often the store seems understaffed, as management will not allow more people on a shift if it cuts into their profits. This creates a very stressful environment with too many things to do and not enough people to do them.
-Very little praise for doing things right, and lots of scolding for doing things wrong or making mistakes.
-Lots of petty workplace drama.
-Very little opportunity for growth.
-Policy states that there is no free food and no breaks for employees, even if they work 10+ hour shifts as I have often been required to do.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like they're human. Pay them fair wages and allow breaks, even if it means another employee has to be there and cut into your precious profits. When morale is high, your employees are more productive and happy.

I worked at Subway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The management is general good with working around school schedules and scheduling time off in advance.

    Cons

The pay is low, the customers are rude, management always runs out of product because they dont order enough to get their "bonuses"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit worrying about your bonus checks when ordering inventory and just order what you need. You get the entry level employees yelled at by customer.

Only work at a Subway if you have nowhere else to go.

    I worked at Subway part-time

    Pros

-You learn how to order a proper sandwich, should you have the mispleasure of ordering one in the bright future ahead of you.
-You are alone most of the time and they didn't reprimand dancing around the store with the music up while closing up.

    Cons

-Manager(s) frequently overlooked raises and needed reminders when raises were up
-Inconsistent treatment of employees on grounds unrelated to work performance
-Mixed bag of coworkers (This was not necessarily a bad thing aside from the few crazies sprinkled in.)
    -Completely inconsistent scheduling
    -Disregard of safety of employees
    -Disregard of health codes
    -That smell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers often had too much going on to care about issues like scheduling or showing up to their shifts. Consider advancing
