Current Employee - Marketing Specialist in South San Francisco, CA

I have been working at SuccessFactors as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

-Big name, looks on good as work experience
-Big company resources

Cons

-A lot of meetings. Constantly.
-CC culture on emails, you will get a lot of emails that are totally irrelevant to your work
-Productivity is low
-Lots of turnover at the senior level, mostly hiring on contractor need= revolving door of employees
-Don't practice what they preach in terms of HR
-A lot of virtual work,
-Very difficult to get ahold of different employees, constant meetings scheduled and rescheduled- no accountability --> ownership is constantly passed along
-Things just happen to the company, a reactive rather than proactive organization. You can come in one day and find out someone doesn't work there and you had no idea because you never saw their face.
-Workspace is limited, desks are given on strange status based reasons, despite preaching a flex work culture
-Very difficult to speak to employees or managers privately due to workspace architecture, everything is heard among the whole office- this can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it, but can be awkward and embarrassing to fester in all day
-Goals are unrealistic and set you up to fail
-You have no control on whether or not you get to keep your job, you can only work as well as other people in the organization. If QBR or whatever metrics aren't met, your are thrown overboard.
-Length of time at organization means nothing, hire from outside constantly.
-Poor management structure, too much title inflation. Too many VP's, Directors, SVP's, Presidents, CXX level redundancy in hierarchy, coordinators, directors, managers, sr. managers- just say it like it is people!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop focusing so much on yourself. Improve your communication with your employees, this does not mean having 1 way conversations via a Town Hall where employees who speak up and challenge your declarations are seen as a PR liability.

I have been working at SuccessFactors full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Young entrepreneurial culture, competitive pay and bonuses, work from home ok.

    Cons

ZERO work life balance and NO respect for your private time. Expect calls & meetings into the late night and also expect you WILL work weekends! The CEO is a bit of a wacko and sends crazy emails and the management will drive you into the ground with long hours and lots of work. Horrible experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HIRE! ! Hire enough people to do the job!
