I worked at Suffolk County, New York

Pros

Some pretty nice people there. Just have to hunt to find the diamonds in the rough.
It's doable work, it isn't too difficult.

Cons

Was an ok job, wouldn't return though. It's not for everybody. If your interested you should talk to the supervisors. Huge attitude barrier which for some(including myself) is hard to deal with.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Screen your applicants a little more throughly. A lot of hires just seem clinically ill. As if someone said your nuts? your hired!

I have been working at Suffolk County, New York

    Pros

Quality of life (work/life) balance, amazing coworkers, satisfaction of knowing you are doing good for your community, pension, and great health benefits (medical, vision, dental), and partially subsidized other benefits such as tax preparation and purchase of glasses or contacts etc.

    Cons

Salary is not livable for Long Island if you have law school debt. There is a residency requirement also, so no trying to live in spots closer to the city. There are loan forgiveness programs but you will live on a shoe string budget for all those years. It's sad so many have second jobs to supplement income. I think many people would stay forever if they could afford to do so...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Updated technology and communication between bureaus.
