I have been working at Suffolk University as a contractor (More than a year)

Pros

All of my co-workers are wonderful
The summer hours are great - 4 day work week!
Very flexible working hours and able to work from home when needed.

Cons

the lack of organization is frustrating
Very low compensation for the type and amount of work
lots of turnover has made standardization difficult

Advice to Management

There needs to be structure and standards for everything from job requirements to process.

    Pros

Free undergrad classes if you are an employee. Lots of appreciation days and inner office celebrations (weddings/baby showers, etc.) HR very good at explaining benefits and helping in that area.I found forums and lectures enlightening when I was able to attend. Decent pay.

    Cons

Red tape. Everything needs to go down a chain of command and a lot of time is wasted. Unfortunately by the time something gets approved it is a rush job. This creates unnecessary work stress. HR is there for upper management and not very helpful if support staff has issues
(contrary to what orientation booklets and videos would have you think).

    Advice to Management

Focus more on getting the job done not being PC at every angle and making everyone happy - it just doesn't happen. Also, stop spending so much money on office meetings/parties and spend student money a little better.

    Pros

Amount of vacation time, students, expanding student body - not just for locals anymore

    Cons

management is not supportive, not sure what it wants to be, too corporate, the pay is very low compared to other private universities in the area.

    Advice to Management

pick a direction and stick with it, don't expect changes overnight, its a place of higher education, not a bank. More focus on what is best for the students, not just numbers and revenue
