    Pros

Sun hired the smartest people they could find. Sun was an engineering-driven company and innovation was a top priority. Sun was a very flexible employer. Depending on your job responsibilities and your manager, you could choose to work from home, at a flexible office, or in a permanent office.

    Cons

Senior management lost track of the health of the company. Even with year after year of layoffs and management did not do any major restructuring to make the company profitable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to Oracle as they take over Sun: Find ways to integrate Sun's culture of innovation into Oracle's culture of business. If you don't make some allowance for why Sun employees go to work, they will find another place to work.

    Pros

Pro’s – Used to be a great company, salaries and benefits were good, great facilities for fitness

    Cons

Since the beginning of 2007, this ship has been sinking fast. No innovation in quite some time. Compensation and stock have been slim to none. Management has seemed lost and cannot direct the ship. Then in April of 2009, Oracle announced they were purchasing Sun. Management has basically checked out since the announcement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For new Oracle mgmt, listen to the folks who do the work before making drastic changes and cuts to products and programs. Since Oracle is a software company, some people will make wrong decisions when they don’t know much about hardware products.
