Pros

A handful of quality employees remain. They were somehow sucked in and are disillusioned enough to stay in an effort to somehow make it better. But they will be hitting a wall as long as completely incompetent and unethical mgmt walk the halls.

Cons

Management across the board are unbelievably incompetent. They have zero software industry knowledge and it shows in every breath they take. They bank on the fact that it would cost millions for a client to migrate to a competing product, so all development is half ass at best. Thousands of serious software bugs that are closed as soon as they are logged citing 'no interest', 'no resources'. As though they were never recreated, and never existed. No upfront analysis by experienced BAs No detailed code models. Zip. Run from this company - it will ruin you forever.

Advice to Management

Please resign and move on to something, anything you may be good at in another industry. Clients would leave in droves if they knew how unethical you are. That the corrupt software is a direct reflection of your inability to understand the software industry - and how to run a legitamate financial services company with integrity.

    Pros

Energetic, fast paced environment. Some truly gifted team members, not many "D" players and below. Okay benefits package for the US

    Cons

Corporate inability to focus on strategic projects or initiatives. Lots of division and unit based infighting and competition. Extremely top-down organization. Opportunities for advancement are limited

    Advice to Management

First, establish a GAM for ALL clients, regardless of annual maintenance and licensing, since most clients own products from mulitples units, if not multiple divisions or segments, and these need to prevent internal competition for the same client IT budgets. Second, involve lower tier team members in information gathering and planning sessions as they are ones at the "sharp end of the stick" who understand the day to day processes of the individual unit. Third, make a decision, are we a consulting firm or a software development firm?

    Pros

Dynamic environment that is professionally challenging. Great people that are very helpful and interactive. Very personable environment most of the time.

    Cons

Extremely political. Immediate managers will hang you out to dry on decisions that you made together and situations out of your control. Middle managers carefully word things so as to cover their butts without letting you know full impact of things.

    Advice to Management

Give your experts some real support. Lessen the amazing amount of politics and shield your technologists while they are focussed on what they should be doing, getting the job done. Take responsibility for your decisions.
