I have been working at SunTrust

Pros

Great people ! Great learning experience ! Serious about good customer service ! SunTrust has a superb training program designed to develop the best professionals in the banking industry.

Cons

Not having enough support from upper management when extremely necessary. Sometimes you are out on your own. It could be isolated to my area, but communicating the real issues sometimes seems like career suicide.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help the branches in need of new equipment and full staff.

    I have been working at SunTrust

    Pros

    So far so good. Good training, decent pay, but the top-notch benefits really sweeten the deal. Still fairly new to the company but I've heard nothing but good things and the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. In this economy nobody wants to be even remotely near the sub-prime mess and Suntrust managed to do its homework and distance itself from the financial sinkhole.

    Cons

    Commuting, sea of paperwork, and Saturdays for some unlucky souls. Typical grievances, but right now many unfortunate, qualified professionals would happily trade unemployment for a stable job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't let your employees down, or you might find yourself getting punched out in the company gym.

    I worked at SunTrust

    Pros

    SunTrust has many locations throughout the southeast and as the employee turnover seems pretty quick, it is relatively relatively easy to get your foot in the door. SunTrust has a good group insurance plan. profitsharing, and other benefits. As is the standard in the banking, there are usually twelve holidays a year meaning that the bank is closed. This is in addition to the vacation.

    Cons

    From my experience, the following were the most frustrating for SunTrust employees:
    employee ideas and opinions are not sought;
    there is very little chance for advancement beyond middle mngmt;
    there seems to be a very politically charged atmosphere in the work environment;
    and, it seems that there are more than a few incompetent people in leadership roles.

    "It's who you know" still seems to stand true in southern banking - even with a big regional bank.
