I have been working at SunTrust

Pros

Pay is good, upper management seems friendly, benfits are good, employees are easy enough to get along with, information gets passed along easy enough

Cons

Office politics cause issues, upper management gets very annoying when goals are not reached, all orders are passed through from Atlanta headquarters what's good for Atlanta may not be good for elsewhere

Give more authority to local leadership

    Pros

The benefits provided by SunTrust were very good
Senior Managers who were able to stick around long enough were very good to work for; however, many were not able to make it

    Cons

SunTrust is a very centralized bank. All decisions are made from Atlanta and the regions must follow them. The centralized model does not allow for the regions to adjust for their own market conditions to maximize revenues. Turnover seems to be high, even in the senior manager roles. There is a strict focus on performance in the short-term (what have you done for me lately attitude). When performance measurements are not met in the short-term, written notice is given to the employee. It's all about production and not about maximizing revenue. Short-term performance is the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employee base. Not all strategies must come from Atlanta.

    Pros

They typically treat people with respect and provide training opportunities. This is a culture of very decent people.

    Cons

Some historical bad credit decisions kept reducing bonuses.
