There are plenty of better places to work for a bank. Suntrust was a dark spot in my career

I worked at SunTrust full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Decent benefits with regard to employee banking etc

Cons

Unrealistic, way too many chiefs in the teepee. Play games with clients instead of shooting straight with them.

No Work life balance, no open door policy with management.

Anyone considering working in retail for Suntrust should seriously look the other way and at the very least consult with a few local employees before beginning a career there. There are much better companies out there

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Squash the love affair with wells fargo and try to develop your own brand. If people wanted to bank with or be emplyed by Wells Fargo they wouldnt be working or banking with Suntrust

    Pros

The people at the branch level are very pleasant to work with

    Cons

Upper management keeps changing their goals. It makes it very difficult to feel as though one is successfully contributing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what you want to do, where you want to go, and stay the course.

I worked at SunTrust full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There are many fantastic and smart people working there. The work is hard, but I stayed all those years because of the people I worked with.

    Cons

Every year since 2006, there have been layoffs in our department and this year they are big again all across the bank. These waves began in the summer and are planned to continue through the rest of the year at a minimum. Banks are shrinking, so if you are looking for security, you won't find it here. After you put in months of 60 hour weeks, you could still be laid off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck with the changes you will need to do with Dodd-Frank. I'm afraid you've lost so much banking knowledge by walking us out the door that you'll have a hard time with the massive development you'll need to do for that.
