    Pros

good pay, lots of vacation/time off, if you get in with the right people you can sail on to retirement with little work

    Cons

Management only cares about impressing those above so they can climb the corporate ladder; you get ahead by who you know not what you do; leaders are clueless as to what subordinates actually do; leaders don't treat all team members equally; development goals are useless as you are forced to put down what your leader wants you to develop and not what you actually want to develop; leaders/mgrs will stop you from moving within the company if they don't want you to leave the dept even if it's on your development goals; some depts will hold employees to staying 2 yrs while other depts will allow you to move in less time which clearly shows which managers genuinely care about supporting their people and not hindering development; very heavy workload and no recognition for extra effort; lots of lip service with little action/things take way too long to change/progress/be completed; technology is 5 years behind other oil and gas companies; hardly any training to do your job; job description is not what the job actually is; HR provides no support if you need it; money is allocated to wrong areas and therefore wasted; managers often make decisions based on their opinions and don't consult the people who may may truly know better; lack of synergy across the company; overall way too many politics.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the dead weight. There are a lot of managers/directors who spend too much time in meetings and not doing any real work. A good leader leads from the bottom up, not the top down. Managers need to care more about their subordinates and stop focusing on themselves. Listen to what your people are saying as they know the job, you don't. Try actually talking to your team to find out what they need to do their jobs, what they want to develop and where they want to go with their career. Learn what is needed to motivate your people to want to do the best work they can. Things need to change significantly in order to keep good employees.
