I worked at Suncor full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

company is trying hard to grow up
    they are safety - conscious
the compensation is competitive, very good if you are willing to work in Ft McMurray

    Cons

company is a one-trick pony, not sure how sustainable their growth / value proposition is
too many directors and vice presidents
supply chain seems to run the company - how is this possible without P&L accountability?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How many leaders do you really need? Who's doing the actual work?

I have been working at Suncor as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good place to get experience.
    Competitive compensation.
    Opportunities for advancement.
Good program for co-op/summer students and EIT's

    Cons

    Supply chain is broken.
Projects and operations running 24/7 often held hostage to wait for action by 8am-4pm Mon-Fri. head office personnel.
Employees and contractors both treated as disposable.
    Very, very bureaucratic and inefficient.
    Hypocritical leadersihp

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach and start actually visiting the operations that pay the bills in a meaningful way - ie. get to know the actual operation, one site visit per year on an insulated, whirlwind executive tour does not a thorough understanding make.
